The long-awaited remake of the fabled Broadway musical finally arrives in theaters this holiday season — with a much needed splash of color. Entertainment journalist Karu F. Daniels caught up with the man who brought it to life after a few missteps; Producer, Director and Co-Writer Will Gluck.
Hollywood’s upcoming remake of one of Broadway’s most beloved musicals will finally be seen by a new crop of moviegoers this Christmas — but it’s not your grandparents’ version of “Annie.”
For starters, the story itself (based on the landmark 1977 Broadway production, which was originally inspired by a 1924 comic strip) does not take place in Depression-Era New York City but is set in present-day cosmopolitan Manhattan. Also, there’s new music from the hit-making singer/songwriter SIA. And of course, there’s the cast — led by history-making Academy Award nominee Quvenzhane Wallis (of “Beasts of the Southern Wild” fame) and also including Academy Award winner Jamie Foxx, Emmy Award winner Bobby Cannavale, Rose Byrne,and Cameron Diaz.

The knockout challenge will begin at 7:30 p.m.
The event is free for all IU students.
Those who wish to participate have the option to register online beforehand, but onsite registration will also be available. Students must present their IU ID to register.
Kevin Hart to perform Dec. 7 at IU Auditorium
Tickets go on sale 10 a.m. Friday and can be purchased online at iuauditorium.com and at the auditorium’s box office. Brett Bassock, Union Board director of Live Entertainment, said in an email that tickets can be charged to the Bursar on iuauditorium.com.
Tickets are $48 for students with a valid IU-Bloomington ID and $58 for non-students.
“Kevin Hart has been on our short list of performers we have wanted to bring to IU for some time now,” Bassock said. “When this opportunity finally presented itself, IU Auditorium and Union Board worked diligently together to make sure the show came to fruition.”

Art Museum hosts Art After Dark event
There will be live music at the event from Before the Streetlights, State Champz and Winslow.
All three bands are local Bloomington bands and feature pop, punk, alternative and indie rock music.
AMSO will also provide free food and a photo booth with costumes and unlimited photos.
Attendees of the event can also make their own masks, visit the galleries and participate in gallery tours.

New nightclub to open in Bloomington
Though the nightclub will join the likes of Kilroy’s, the Bluebird Nightclub and other hot spots, its founder, Ron Patton, said it will be a unique
experience. Patton, an IU junior, said The Hive will set itself apart from the traditional bar scene by being a trendier nightclub venue on the weekend and a restaurant during the week and weekend days. With the lack of a clubbing scene in Bloomington and an open venue, Patton said he felt like students needed somewhere where they could go to dance and see live
performances.Along with big-name performers, Patton said the Hive’s team also hopes to bring in local bands, have 18-plus nights and karaoke. By day, the Hive will transform into an upscale bar and grill, serving gourmet food. The menu will include classic college and American style foods like wings, pizza and burgers. Entree prices will likely range from $9 to $13.-
